Sing Shalom: Songs for the Jewish Holidays has been awarded a Parents’ Choice Recommended seal, a new commendation in 1998. It indicates that "the Parents’ Choice committees found the product distinguished enough to give it a notch above our “Approval” rating. In other words, this honor implies our approval and, even beyond that, our thorough recommendation for reasons of production, appeal and fulfillment of its clear intent." "Approval" by Parents’ Choice "indicates a wholesome product that helps children enjoy developing physical, emotional, social or academic skills" and is "given on the basis of the production, entertainment and human values they exemplify."

Parents’ Choice, the country’s only nonprofit guide to all the media for children, "initiated in 1978 the evaluating of children’s products with the sole mission of getting information to mothers and fathers and all involved in the lives of children so that families, teachers, and librarians can easily make informed choices and purchases for their youngsters. Objective choices. Purchases that will help their children grow strong in interest, character, knowledge, and the ability to enjoy life."

According to the national print and broadcast press, the Parents’ Choice Awards have become the "Oscars" of children’s product.
